Following the September meeting at the new venue in Pimlico, all those attending suggested that we should use the room for the "regular" National Meetings from now on.
So, the November (17th) and December (20th) meetings will be at the new venue. Remember, next Frday's Auction will still be at Napier Hall - Don't go to Pimlico rooms! New venue for November and December:. The address is: Pimlico Room, St. Saviours, St. George’s Square, Lupus Street, Pimlico SW1V 3QW The latest issue of the Bulletin will be winging it's way to members now.
Before anyone says anything, there is an unfortunate error. Page 16 has been printed twice. The next issue of the Extra will contain the missing information! Due to the rising costs of hiring Napier Hall for our monthly meetings and the fact that for most meetings we do not need the space, the decision has been made to try somewhere else. They have a larger room which we have not seen, so we will be at Napier Hall for the Auction in October. I want you all to see what you think, so I have only booked September meeting. I believe that the room is better suited to our needs, is nearer Pimlico Station and a lot cheaper than Napier Hall! There is parking in the adjacent road (Three spaces), the next road along (5 spaces) and the road opposite Pimlico station (7 or 8 spaces). The area is not in the Congestion Zone. The address is: Pimlico Room, St. Saviours, St. George’s Square, Lupus Street, Pimlico SW1V 3QW One of the remarks from the BMSS Annual; Show held yesterday at the Holiday Inn in Bloosbury was "it is great to see that the old BMSS buzz is back again" . A great day out for all the trade, clubs and all who attended! The pictures below are just a small sample of what was going on.
All the table spaces for the Annual Show are now taken up!
The last traders to take stands at the show are Adrian Little, Bonhams and Chris Newall. Welling Model Club will also be attending with a display of models. Be there on 27th April or be square! At the AGM held at Napier Hall on Saturday (23rd), attended by over 20 members, as well as the usual repirts and presentations by officers of the Committee, Michael creese stood down as the curent president, having completed his 5 year term.
Nominated by John Regan (Hon. Editor) ,the members duly elected STEPHEN DANCE as the new president. More info to follow in later blogs. The latest issue of the Extra is now available to BMSS members on this website - go to the Members' page.
This is the first issue in Colour! There is also a black and white version for those who want to print it off cheaper than printing a colour version. This year's Old Toy Soldier Competition, held at the pre-Christmas meeting at Napier Hall on 21st December, was won by Stephen Dance with his "The German Army Camp", the boxed set of George Spenkuch German World War I figures shown here. Stephen's full description of the exhibit is as follows: "GEORG SPENKUCH OF NÜRNBERG (“G.S”) Display set No.1063 “Ein Biwak. Unserer Feldgrauen im Weltkrieg 1914/15” . Some of the figures wear the Pickelhaube but most have the soft field service cap or Mütze. Spenkuch was well known for semi flats like these, but also produced ranges of figures for model railways and pieces for parlour boardgames. Some GS moulds remain in use." In second place (above left) was John Ruddle with an entry entitled "Old Britains". This consisted of a number Britains figures, mounted and on foot, displayed on a page of a Britains 1905 catalogue, headed "London-Made Metal Soldiers". This was accompanied by a picture of John with William Britain at a Centenary Dinner.
In third place (above centre) was Peter Jackson's "Russian Flats", a set of smallish-scale pristine figures comprising a mounted officer, band and infantrymen and were late nineteenth century Russian infantry flats by Heinrichsen. They were in their original box and original paint condition. (Above right) Stephen Dance is seen receiving the Trophy from Arthur Smith, under the watchful (and benign) eye of President Mike Creese. |
