Collecting toy and model soldiers
The British Model Soldier Society has much to offer those who are keener to buy and collect figures rather than make or paint models for themselves. The collecting of Toy Soldiers of both past and present has been an established side of the Society for as long as the BMSS has existed.
Auctions and Sales
The selling of both lead and plastic figures is a regular feature of the London Meetings amongst members attending, and at the regular Auctions held twice a year. Entry to the Auctions is open to members only and has the advantage of only charging 10% vendor's premium and no buyers premium, thereby not adding to the total price charged to the unsuspecting.
At these Auctions the opportunity to buy items such as old Britains figures and other pre-war items is much greater than any other venue. With the decline in the number of specialist shops selling these very collectable items the Society meetings are one of the few places that they can be found without competing with the richer dealers that frequent the main London auctions.
Advice to collectors
BMSS members regularly get together to sell and swap or just discuss their latest finds. The opportunity to have their newly acquired items examined by other enthusiasts is also an added attraction. Many of the well-known collectors who have written on the subject are members and are nearly always available to give advice.
Repair and restoration
With the growing age of many collectable items the problem of restoration or repair without decreasing the value is a question that is often asked. The Society has members who are experts on this touchy subject.
Model soldiers and modern solids
The BMSS often has the task of disposing of collections of all types of models. In this respect the opportunity to acquire out of production kits of half finished figures is unique. These are always sold at much more competitive prices than at toy fairs.
